A wine made in very small amounts from grapes indigenous to the patches of woodlands that hug Sicily’s mount Etna. Federica Turillo and Cesare Fulvio hand harvest frapes are from 120 y/o vines, steeped in history on the famous volcanic soils of the area. Named ‘I Nove Fratelli’ to honour Cesares Grandfather, it’s label designed by Federica. With a lower alcohol in the scheme of Etna reds, at 14%, this boasts a fine smokey and rich quality, a real example of the deep expression that you get from the area with a slightly lighter touch. Dark cherries and warm balsamic spice lead into a rich mineral intensity with fine smoke, all rounded off with great acidity and silky tannins. Very food-friendly and versatile. Serve at 16-18 degrees.
