Bertrand-Delespierre • L’Enfant De La Montagne • NV • Champagne, France • Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir • Sparkling

It’s the first thing that should be drunk on Christmas day and it will be the best champagne any of your family drinks over the festive period, period. Queue entering everyone's good books immediately.

This cuvée comes from vineyards in Chamery, Ecueil, Villedomange and Montbré, all 1er Cru villages on the Montagne de Reims. Fermented and aged in stainless steel for about eight months, it spent five years 'sur lattes'. Fruit sustained beautifully, also with good bite and precision. Merry maker.

Wine Preparation: Serve nice and cold.

Zilliken • Saarburger Rausch Riesling Kabinett • 2020 • Mosel, Germany • Riesling • White

At 7.5% you could almost have it with your eggs. You could also easily pair it with oysters, smoked salmon or our favourite would be a boxing day curry.

This is as traditional as Mosel Riesling gets. Fermented and matured in traditional Fuder barrels, this off-dry, low-alcohol (7.5%) wine is a perfect antidote to heavy Christmas drinking. It is, however, still indulgent: The sweetness and crisp acidity of this wine combine to make for a pretty luxurious drinking experience. The Zilliken bottles are also beautiful, complete with a crest and coat of arms.

Wine Preparation: Serve chilled

Claus Preisinger • Puszta Libre! • 2022 • Burgenland, Austria • Zweigelt, Sankt Laurent and Pinot Noir • Red

This is the big red that really will get pulled out once the Christmas meat hits the table, however will also stand up perfectly well with a cheese board, or simply on its own by the fire.

Domaine de la Pinte • Sav’or • 2020 • Jura, France • Savagnin • Orange

Elegant Jura Savagnin from the blue marl soils in the heart of Arbois, masterfully created by Pierre Martin. On the more sophisticated side of orange wines, one that won't upset nan. Spending 12 days on skins, expect an intense spicy, citrus fruit nose. On the palate, white pepper, confit lemon, candied pear followed by a full, long finish with a hint of bitterness. A savoury wine for the foodies and orange-curious. Amazing with soft cheeses, seafood and fish dishes.
