Sparkling orange is a rare thing, especially one this good. Three-week macerated Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Blanc is blended with direct-press Zweigelt, all from minimally pruned vineyards, which are then aged for eight months in wooden barrels, with a second fermentation taking place in bottle and zero added sulphur. Franz Strohmeier’s deft touch when it comes to bubbles is on full display here, producing an elegant yet complex drink combining notes of stone fruit, hay and salty citrus.
